Help Yourself is available from booksellers everywhere.
science + food philosophy + delicious recipes
Help Yourself isn’t about stereotypical "health food." Instead, the food is abundant, hearty, colorful, and delicious—all created with my trademark approach of creating smart, streamlined, doable recipes.
In addition to the recipes, I cover the science of the gut microbiota, how it influences every aspect of our health, and a large section of original food philosophy and strategies. My goal is to break free of the common wellness tropes and show that eating with your microbes in mind can be delicious and easy. It's an anti-diet book of sorts, that doesn't advocate counting calories or thinking about "carbs."

Praise for Help Yourself
“[Hunt] takes a deep dive into digestive wellness and shares 125 gut-healthy recipes in this sensible approach to healthy eating. Hunt expertly illustrates that diners are able to maintain good health by eating more plant-based foods (such as vegetables, nuts, beans, and legumes) in order to maintain a healthy balance of gut microorganisms...Hunt’s recipes use easy-to-source ingredients, and her directions are clear, ensuring confidence as well as success…This is a lightning bolt of lucidity in a crowded and jargon-laden field of often impractical and unsustainable dietary approaches.”
-PUBLISHER’S WEEKLY, (STARRED REVIEW)
“Help Yourself, focuses on eating for gut health in a way that is somehow both playful and science-backed, both plentiful and nourishing. The lengthy introduction is a well-researched, cleanly laid out trove of knowledge—but don’t stop there. Crunchy little cauliflower “breadcrumbs” make mushy cauli rice a distant memory, while spicy miso mayo tastes great slathered on steamed broccoli or swooshed into a baked Japanese sweet potato.”
-EPICURIOUS.COM, Spring Cookbook Preview
“Soups are standouts here, including spiced carrot soup with coconut cream as well as lemony chicken and quinoa soup, but there are stars in other areas, such as a parsley, kale, and pumpkin seed pesto that can accompany other dishes throughout the book. In a relatable voice, she explains how to embrace meal prep, reminding readers to eat what feels best for them…This is not a weight-loss cookbook, and Hunt doesn’t intend it to be…A worthy follow-up to Healthyish that can more than stand on its own.”
